Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory, originally C.P. Magner Funeral Home, was founded by Clarence and Julia Magner in 1935. Later, they were joined by their daughter and her husband, Winifred and Jack Malone. In 1975, the funeral home was purchased by their employee of many years, Joe Maloney. Clarence P. Magner, Founder
Service at C.P. Magner Funeral Home, 1935 - 1954
Magner-Maloney was founded in 1935 by Clarence P. Magner and was originally named C.P. Magner Funeral Home.
The original funeral home was located on Lincoln Street (pictured above).
Clarence was born in 1885 in San Francisco and had deep family roots in California
as both his parents were also born in California.
Clarence along with his wife, Julia and daughter Winifred “Winnie”, made Santa Maria their home
and took pride in serving the families of the Santa Maria Valley.
Clarence passed away in 1954 and Julia in 1970.
Jack and Winifred “Winnie” Malone, Owners
Service at Magner Funeral Home, 1946 - 1975
Clarence and Julia were joined in the funeral home by their daughter Winnie and her husband, Jack Malone in 1946,
who continued to serve the families of the Santa Maria Valley.
In 1962, they moved the funeral home to its current location on Stowell Road next to the Santa Maria Cemetery.
This move was instrumental for the future growth of Magner-Maloney as they designed and built
a full-service facility with a large chapel and the potential for growth over the years.
Jack passed away in 1975 and Winnie in 1994.
Joseph "Joe" Maloney, Owner
Service at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home, 1970 - 2021
Joseph “Joe” Maloney was an employee of Jack and Winnie Malone.
He purchased the funeral home from the Malone family in 1975 and our name became Magner-Maloney Funeral Home.
Joe retained the Magner name as it represented a long-time commitment to
professional and caring service to the families of the Santa Maria Valley.
In 2006, Joe opened an on-site crematory, our name then changed to Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory.
Joe was a kind, giving, and caring man who was cherished by many.
He brought these qualities in his service to the families of the Santa Maria Valley.
Joe showed his commitment and trustworthiness in many ways.
One was his decision to offer families guaranteed prearranged funeral plans.
This truly showed his kind and giving nature and was pivotal in assisting families with future planning.
Joe passed away in 2021.
Benjamin "Ben" Pirkl, Managing Partner
Service at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory, 2002 - Present
Benjamin “Ben” Pirkl came to work for the Maloney family in 2002.
He soon realized funeral directing was his calling and became a part of the Maloney family, both in work and personal life. Joe and his wife Linda (also a licensed Funeral Director) accepted Ben as their son and his children as their grandchildren. Ben brought his forward-thinking attitude, organization, and service skills to Magner-Maloney.
Joe mentored Ben with his kindness and years of knowledge in the industry.
In 2006, Ben assisted Joe in opening the crematory.
Ben also opened the food and beverage gathering room at Magner-Maloney, a funeral resource center,
and many other additions to better serve our families.
Currently, Linda and Ben are partners; Ben operates the funeral home and crematory.
He honors the legacy of our past while innovating for the families we serve.
When you see Ben at a service, take notice of his tie, he wears only Joe’s ties in honor of his mentor.
No further name changes are planned as Linda and Ben feel the Magner and Maloney names are deeply rooted in the
Santa Maria community and represent the compassionate and caring service that families of the past, present and future
will receive from Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory.
Magner-Maloney looks forward to serving the families of the Santa Maria Valley for many more years.
